Wood Cutting Tips and Tricks – On the House

Wood Cutting Tips and Tricks

By on June 10, 2014

We’re here at the international homeowner cross-grain saw competition —  spanning the globe to bring you the constant variety of sports and wood working. The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat (as in when you make a good clean cut — or the wood splinters). The human drama of athletic competition and knowing what you’re doing when you’re cutting wood. This is ABC’s Wide World of Sports and the Carey Brothers reporting on today’s wood sawing competition.

First up is Sven Hacker from Norway. He’s cutting a board with a circular saw from the backside. Smooth as silk, no splintering — because he knows it cuts in an upward direction. He’s a pro.

Next up is Bill Smithers from the USA. He’s going for the gold by attempting saw finish trim. He’s scoring the cut line on the wood with a sharp utility knife. Now he saws, staying on the waste side of the cut — and he makes it — a perfectly clean cut with no splintering. Sco-o-o-o-o-ore!
