Gas masks were invented in 1849, and if your pet meets up with a skunk, you’d better get one. Either that, or read today’s tips which will allow you to make a skunk smell go away.

Soak Fido or Fluffy’s fur with tomato juice, leave it on, and let it dry. Then rinse with 3 parts warm water and 1 part white vinegar. The acid cuts and lifts the oil-based scent.

Products used by pet hotels and vets include Nature’s Miracle liquid shampoo and liquid Pet Odor Eliminator. Both are for pets, clothes and carpets. Odor Mute powder mixes with water, laundry detergent and other cleaners. Pet stores carry these products.

Pro animal handlers and wildlife biologists use something else called neutroleum alpha — available only by mail. To order it call (570)-476-6178.
