Flush Performance Index – On the House

Flush Performance Index

Toilet Replacement

In 1956, Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus made its last performance in a tent and since has performed only in arenas. The point? Change often improves performance. For example, at your house a new water-saving toilet is good, but how do you decide which one would be best? What should you look for and what should you test?

To help you make better-informed decisions, the National Association of Home Builders tested 49 popular low-flow toilets for operational efficiency. They created a flush performance index with numerical ratings for removal of solids and “clog potential.” The result? While some were star performers, others didn’t measure up as far as the flush goes.

Want to know which did and which didn’t? Check out savingwater.org and click on “toilet test ranking” for performance stats on all 49 models and a list of top performers under $100. It pays to check performance before you buy.
