Glass globe silencer

Happen to have a loose glass globe in a ceiling light fixture that rattles or hums when a nearby fan motor is running (such as a circulating ceiling fan or the bathroom exhaust fan)? Here's how to stop the vibrating: From deep within the Carey Brothers' vault, we offer a way for you to ?get a grip.? Indeed, says here, to silence a noisy glass globe that works loose and rattles or hums, whenever a nearby fan is running, just loosen the set screw, remove the globe and place a wide rubber band around the neck -- right where the screws make contact. Then put it back. The rubber band will prevent further loosening, and will also dampen any vibration noise. It also will protect the glass globe from future overzealous screw-tightening.
