There's a right tool for every job and that includes painting.
Today, you'll learn all about brushes and rollers, bristles and covers and handles and holders. While paintbrush handles can be varished, lacquered or plastic, unfinished wood is the professional's handle choice, as it won't turn in the hand and slip. As for bristles, natural china hog hair is best for use with oil-based paint, but not for latex. These bristles absorb water and become unruly when they begin to swell up. Instead, use nylon or polyester bristles with all water-based paints. For rollers, buy high-end lambswool covers as they hold a larger amount of paint and won't leave track marks or throw off as many tiny specks and paint splatters. For gloss enamel finishes, use thin mohair covers and use thicker, fuller rollers for flat-latex paint. Avoid inexpensive handles with wing-nut ends. The compression-type with wires running between the ends will hold and roll your work on best. And that's the On The House tip for today.
