Tip of the Day

Rust-busters

When tools are new -- all shiny and sharp -- they work really well. But once you use them and put them away, they get funkier and rustier by the day. Soon they’re a mess of rust and goo, and don’t get the job done like they did at first. The solution is the handyman’s friend -- a lubricant, scuff remover, sticky label remover and No. 1 all-round rust-buster -- WD-40, in a spray can. To keep tools clean when you put them away, put a soft towel or piece of carpet in the bottom of your tool box. Every so often give it a spritz to keep rust at bay. A charcoal briquette helps absorb moisture, too. To clean rusty nuts, bolts and screws, soak them overnight in a cola soft drink. These are all good rust-busters that clean in a wink. And that's the On The House tip for today.
