The Big Picture

After checking the roof and repainting the house, you still have a bit more work to do. Today, in the final chapter of our winter-survivor series, we talk about the need to step back to see the big picture. First inspect the foundation for any old cracks that might have grown, or new ones that might signal structural problems. If all is OK, take a few steps back -- way back -? where you can survey your entire home as well as its landscaping and the surrounding property. Does adjacent soil slope and drain away from the house? Are some trees getting too big or too close? Are there barren spots that need greenery? And finally, take stock of your home's entertainment quotient. Are the decks and patios big enough? And even more important, are they clean and ready for the first day of summer? It's here! You've outfitted, outwitted, outlasted and survived another winter. Now it's time for summer fun. Enjoy. And that's the On The House tip for today.
