Lights Out?

Do you have a light that doesn't work right? One that flickers and dims day and night? You might be surprised to know there's a small hidden part that, if not right, causes problems. If you have a lamp or fixture that's acting up or one that seems to have just given up and doesn't improve with usual repair techniques, there's one more thing to try. Before you toss the light, unscrew the bulb and look in the socket. On the bottom you'll see a small metal tab that makes contact with the bottom of the bulb and supplies the "juice" that fires it up. However, if the two never meet, your light soon will be out in the street. As a last ditch check before a major re-wiring or total "retiring," bend the tab up just a bit to enhance the contact. You might find your illumination problem is solved. And that's the On The House tip for today.
