Sprucing up your home usually involves painting -- with some paint inevitably left over when you're done. Unfortunately, over time a "skin" develops and even if it's peeled off, the remaining paint can be thick and lumpy. So what's the best way to handle leftover paint? Mark off the remaining amount on the outside label so you'll know how much is in the can without opening it. There are two ways to prevent a "skin" from forming. One is to just turn the can upside down. This usually solves the problem. But if you want to be certain, fill a number of plastic zip-top food storage bags with water. Keep lowering them into the can of paint until the level rises to the top of the can (the level of the paint when the can was new). Seal it tight and put it away. When you need it, it'll be good as new. And that's the On The House tip for today.
