Tip of the Day

Digital Home Inventory

Last year there were 368,000 home fires in the U.S. with $5.5 billion in property damage. Burglaries also took their toll, as did natural disasters like tornadoes and floods. If you were the victim of a break-in, a fire or a devastating storm, could you recall everything lost or missing? At insurance time a detailed home inventory is a must. There are many ways to do this, ranging from making a list and producing receipts to capturing images on film or videotape. Today's technology makes this easier than ever. New digital cameras can put photos on your computer and then onto a variety of disk or CD options. New low-cost software also is available that merges digital photos and inventory info into a complete and easy-to-update record of all your personal possessions. Check out "home inventory" sites and services online. You'll find lots of great new ideas that'll save you time and give you peace of mind. And that's the On The House tip for today.
