Magnet Dragnet

It was late and we were working the residential guardian detail. I'm Detective Joe Friday, safety cop, and this is my partner Frank Filstrup. We were on our way to San Jose on a 1040 -- metal negligence. Not a pretty picture. Open up. Safety police here. Understand you left metal scraps lying around after some construction work -- loose nails, metal clippings, dangerous stuff that could hurt someone who steps on it or become a deadly airborne missile, if hit by a lawnmower. Doesn't have to be that way. Pros clean up after jobs with a special magnetic broom. You can do it yourself -- and even easier. Got an old stereo speaker gathering dust? Take the magnet off it (it's powerful), put it in a plastic trash bag and drag it around the job site. The magnet will pick up stray nails and metal scraps, and you won't be breaking the law of common sense -- courtesy and safety. Those are the facts, sir. And that's the On The House tip for today.
