Screening Replacement

Looking for a good weekend project? Does your door screen look like a factory reject? If so, here's how to rescreen it -- like a pro, as easy as making a bow. To get drum-tight, wrinkle-free screening once the old screen is removed, lay the frame or door on a flat work surface and put a piece of 1-inch-thick wood under each end. Then push down in the middle of each side, creating a slight bow in the door or frame -- and clamp it down. Then attach the new screening to one end with rubber spline or staples, if wood. At the other end, pull it snug but not too tight. Fasten it in place and then remove the clamps. As it straightens, the frame will pull the screen tight. Finish the sides to complete the look of a professional job. And that's the On The House tip for today.
