Tip of the Day

Sawing Holes in Metal

"Batman" made its debut this day in 1966. He and Robin were the dynamic crime-fighting duo. One day Joker, Catwoman, Penguin and the Riddler all ganged up on Batman and locked him inside a big stainless steel box. Inside Batman opened his utility belt and took out an electric drill with a hole-saw bit. Its tiny teeth were engineered for just this sort of job, but as he started drilling the bit heated up and started smoking. He needed help to put machine oil under the red-hot spinning bit, but Robin, the Boy Wonder, wasn't around to assist. Going again to his utility belt, he took out a sponge, cut through it with the hole saw, removed the plug, soaked it with machine oil, put it back in the bit and proceeded to drill. The oil slowly seeping down from the sponge did the trick. Bam! Batman was free. Pow! The bad guys were down and our hero won again -- single-handedly. And that's the On The House tip for today.
