Paint-roller Tip 1: Neater Edges

Richard Milhous Nixon was born this day in 1913, the first president to resign while in office -- due to that edgy Watergate mess. If you're involved in repainting a room or two, and have resigned yourself to painting edges around ceilings and trim -- first with a brush -- and then going back and rolling over them as close to the edge as you can (to cover up unsightly brush strokes without making a mess on the adjoining surface) -- don't give up (like you know who). Today in paint-roller tip 1, we'll tell you how you can roll closer edges without making smeary messes. Slip your hand inside a plastic bag (grocery, produce, sandwich, whatever), grasp the paint-soaked roller sleeve and slide it a little off the roller handle cage so it extends about 1 inch past the roller knob end. You'll be able to roll very close to edges to hide any telltale brush stroke messes (You know who would've loved it.) And that's the On The House tip for today.

Good Day for a Re-hanging
Screws in door hinges tend to loosen after years of opening and closing. It's a reality you can't escape.
