It's National "Toilet Tank Repair Month," and today in part 2 of our "toilet tune-up" series you'll learn an important replacement "must." Thinking of a new toilet for remodeling or redecorating, or of replacing a water-guzzling oldie? Whatever the reason, after years of service, a toilet will eventually need to be replaced. While it is not a particularly difficult task and one that can be done by most handy homeowners, there's one key thing to remember. Before getting started, get down and measure the distance from the wall (not the baseboard) behind the toilet to one of the rear bolts holding the toilet to the floor. Most often this measurement will be 12 inches. This is called the "rough-in" measurement, and not all toilets are the same. Knowing this exact measurement beforehand, rather than trying to measure after the old toilet has been taken out, can save you a lot of time and trouble. And that's the On The House tip for today.
