Visual Illusion with Color

Walt Disney’s TV debut occurred on this day in 1954. No one knew better than Disney how color creates magic, how simple lights and darks can move walls, make rooms seem bigger and widen narrow halls. For centuries, the great masters of art used these secrets to bring life and depth to that which was dull and flat. Here are some ways to create visual illusions with colors. Light colors are airy and cool and make you feel alert. Dark colors are cozy, warm and rich, making you relax. Ceilings look higher when painted lighter than the walls, and seem lower when darker in color. Narrow halls seem wider when one side is slightly darker than the other. To make a narrow room look square and balanced, paint short walls darker and the long ones light. And that's the On The House tip for today.
