"Wyatt Earp," TV's first adult western, premiered on this day in 1955. Actor Hugh O'Brien pinned on his star, and bad guys in Dodge City learned there was a new sheriff in town. The same respect is shown today when new appliances show up in your home wearing the Energy Star, the official label that tells energy-guzzling appliances their days of robbing and rustling energy dollars are over. Wondering what that Energy-Star label means? EPA kicked it off in '92 to identify and promote energy-efficient products -- those that far exceeded minimum government standards. They include clothes washers that are 50 percent more efficient and use 50 percent less water, dishwashers that are 25 percent more efficient and refrigerators and air conditioners that save energy and money. Today, the Energy Star is on everything -- from computers and TVs to furnaces and water heaters. It's even seen on new homes that are 30 percent more efficient. And that's the On The House tip for today.
