Asphalt Driveway Sealing

Looking for a good hazy-day project that you wouldn't want to tackle when the sun's blazing? Today we discuss sealing an asphalt driveway -- when it's not too hot or too cold. Here's how. Sealing asphalt should be routine maintenance, as it prolongs the life and the quality of the surface. While pros use materials not available to homeowners, hardware stores sell sealers that do a good job, and you can save money by doing it yourself. Proper prepping is a must for a lasting job. Oil spots should be cleaned with a detergent (not a solvent). Weeds should be removed from all cracks and the entire surface must be thoroughly cleaned. All cracks wider than a hairline should be filled. By doing the work on a hazy summer day, it won't be scorching hot. And it'll "weather" better next winter as water won't freeze and expand tiny cracks into bigger cracks and potholes. And that's the On The House tip for today.
