Hitting the Road?

Henry Ford's first car rolled out this month in 1896, and ever since Fords have been one of America's favorite 'get-away' vehicles. Packing up and heading out to see Dad this special weekend? Be sure the home you leave behind is safe and secure. Before hitting the road, turn off the main water to avoid finding a mess when you return. To save money, turn down the water heater and unplug all TVs and electronics -- they're ?on? a little even when they're off. Don't waste even small amounts of electricity. Doing so also prevents damage from electrical storms and power surges. Remember to turn down thermostats -- no need to heat or cool when no one is there. Think about security, too. Put a light and radio on a timer, and have a neighbor pick up newspapers and mail. With just a little thought and effort, you can hit the road with peace of mind. And that's the On The House tip for today.
