Rock and Roll

Got a large boulder or rock you want to move? What's needed? A backhoe, bulldozer, steam shovel? Nope, you don't need heavy equipment -- just smarts. Just dig out around the boulder and then shove an 8-foot-long 2x4 underneath it. Place a brick or wood block under the 2x4 to act as a fulcrum. Then move it to the other side and insert a second 2x4 and fulcrum. Push down on one of them to slightly raise the boulder. Have a helper toss gravel or dirt underneath it. Next, go to the other side and push down on the 2x4. Again have your helper add more fill under the boulder. Repeat the process, going from one lever to another, until your huge nemesis rock is raised flush with the ground. Then just roll it away. You don't need heavy equipment; just rock and roll. And that's the On The House tip for today.
