You hear a big storm is brewing. It's a catastrophe in the making. Now what? Today, in part 4 of "Homeowner Survivor" week, we discuss surviving natural disasters. You're prepared for Mother Nature's wrath, ready for anything from earthquakes to floods. Now a huge storm is only minutes away. In addition to all the standard preparedness items like drinking water, food, candles and batteries, here are a few last-minute things you should do. Crank up the temperature in the refrigerator and freezer to keep food cold longer in case power fails. Unplug electronic equipment, fill tubs with water and, once trouble begins, check often for leaks. You can rig any number of quick-fix remedies from a funnel in a hose (for steady drips) to a wall-to-wall "catch basin" (by taping a plastic drop cloth a few inches up each wall). Bad weather is easier to weather if you're aware and prepared. This week in part 5 of "Homeowner Survivor," you'll learn how to outfit, outwit, outlast and survive "high energy bills." And that's the On The House tip for today.
