Lead Paint Removal

Today is Rosemary Clooney's birthday. She's well-known for singing ?This Old House." If you're singing a similar tune, and planning on fixing the old place up, do some checking before sanding and painting. There might be hidden danger with lead in old coats of paint; the older the home, the greater the chance of finding hazardous paints. Hardware stores sell a simple test kit that detects lead in old paint. If it comes up positive, don't sand or scrape. Go back and purchase a special kit for lead-paint removal. It uses plastic film to cover the chemical stripper that attaches to the hazardous paint, and peels it all away when the film is removed -- the next day. Play it safe with old paint and lead. Start each project by using your head. And that's the On The House tip for today.
