Earth-friendly Batteries

"CBS Evening News" made it's TV debut on this day in 1948. It featured breaking news and Walter Cronkite saying: ?and that's the way it is.? Today, we've got another news flash for you about big improvements in cordless power tools -- and ?here's the way it is." Until recently, almost all cordless tools were powered with nickel cadmium or ni-cad batteries, but cadmium batteries are bad for the environment and require special handling and disposal when they end their useful life span. Not so with a new breed of battery called "nickel metal hydride." It's is earth- and environment-friendly, and can be thrown in the trash without harm when no longer useful. An added bonus is they last longer -- 70 percent or more, with some tools. And that's the On The House tip for today.
