Lamp Cord Repair

Got a lamp that flickers? Zaps when you turn it on? It has a worn power cord or broken wall plug? Here's how to rewire lamps without knowing volts or amps. Anyone can easily rewire a lamp by paying attention to the way it comes apart. When attaching the new lamp cord, look closely at the two wires. One side will be smooth while the other will have ridges or a stripe running along its length. Connect the smooth side to the lamp?s brass screw, and the ridged (or striped) side to the silver screw. Use the same rules to rewire the plug end. If it's not a screw-type plug, the smooth side goes to the narrow blade of the plug, and the ridged (or striped) side to the wide-blade side. Attaching wires correctly observes ?polarity? and reduces chances of getting a shock. It's easy, and makes your lamp like new, too. And that's the On The House tip for today.
