Tip of the Day

Don't Switch that Switch

The Pony Express began operations on this day in 1860. Horses were switched every 10 miles and new riders took over every 75. Due to the switches, they stayed fresh from start to finish. Not all switches work that well over the long haul. Maybe you have an outlet or switch box that sits too deep in the wall so the outlets or switches aren't flush. Don't start tearing them out or shooting up the place; there is an easy remedy. Just mosey on down to your local home center and put your brand on a package of plastic switchbox spacers. They slip onto the mounting screws between the box and switch or outlet and each one raises it up about 3/32nds of an inch. They're cheap, and there's plenty in each package, so use as many as you need. Round some up and give those switches and outlets and your spirits a lift. And that's the On The House tip for today.
