Painting Tricky Items

"Masterpiece Theatre" made its television debut on this day in 1971, and it brought a new look to television. If you've got something at your place to which you want to give a new look with a fresh coat of paint, here's how to get into the little nooks and crannies of your masterpiece without dripping and splattering paint or stain all over your hands, face, walls and floor. When it's time to start painting tricky items such as shutters, a fence or a deeply carved antique, get an old oven mitt or wool sock. Put a plastic bag over your hand or a rubber glove. Then put the mitt or sock on; dip it in your paint and smoosh and squoosh away. You will find slats, grillwork and filigrees are easy. When you are through, just throw your handy "brush" away. And that's the On The House tip for today.
