Masterpiece Caulking

"Masterpiece Theater" premiered on this day in 1971. If you're a detail kind of person who likes to make every job and project a masterpiece, here's a tip that will make caulk lines neater, crisper and longer-lasting, too. Typically, where molding meets the wall, a 90-degree square corner is what gets caulk and the bead is cleaned off to form a small cove. However, for a better and neater look, relieve or bevel the top back edge with a quick pass of a block plane first. It will provide a small recess for the caulk between the molding and the wall, resulting in a neater, longer-lasting job. Your masterpiece will be PBS quality, too. And that's the On The House tip for today.
