Tip of the Day

Finish Before You Start

Nostradamus, who could see the future, was born on this date in 1503. Today he?d be a handy guy to have around when it's time to apply a clear finish to bare wood. He'd instinctively know if it needs stain or if clear finish is the answer. Do you wish there was a way to know before you paint? You can see what a clear finish on wood will look like before you paint by moistening a cloth with paint thinner or rubbing alcohol, or even a little water, and wiping it on the wood surface. The moisture will bring out the wood grain just like a clear coat would. This process will show you whether or not you need a stain. And that's the On The House tip for today.
