Tip of the Day

Finding a Stud

If you are having trouble finding a stud, try a stud-finder -- a gizmo you slide along the wall. It senses changes in the density of materials inside the walls and lights up and beeps when it passes over a stud. You also could use a magnetic stud-finder -- one that finds nails in the studs, with a magnet. But be careful. Metal pipes and other materials create false signals. Studs are usually 16 inches or 24 inches apart; so when you find one, it's easy to find others. And that's the On The House tip for today.
