Tip of the Day

It's A Hold-Up!

To paint a small box on all sides at once, cut small dowel rods into 4-inch lengths and sharpen both ends in a pencil sharpener. Then push them into a block of Styrofoam and rest your work on the points sticking up, using enough dowels to keep it from rocking or falling over. If you are painting a table, make sure the legs are held up -- off the floor -- on metal washers. To paint a door, drive nails in both ends, and suspend the door between two sawhorses. And that's the On The House tip for today.

Graphite is a natural lubricant. Rubbing a pencil's soft tip on keys that go into locks and tape measures that retract keeps them working smoothly.
