Tip of the Day

Like Old Decor?

"The Bob Hope Show" made its TV debut on this day in 1953, and his familiar theme song said, "thanks for the memories." Today "memories" are big in remodeling too. What goes around comes around, and old-looking decor is in fashion again. Replicas of old plumbing fixtures like bathtubs with claw feet, pedestal sinks, and reproductions of everything from antique lock sets and doorknobs to old wood and bricks are in vogue today. But new stuff that only looks like it's from the 19th century can be very pricey and out of budget for many homeowners. Our solution? Consider the real thing. Wrecking companies often salvage items from old homes and buildings. With a little searching and creativity and help from modern restoration products (available at your local hardware store), you'll say "thanks for the memories" at bargain prices that are sure to please. And that's the On The House tip for today.
