Tip of the Day

Mayonnaise and pecans are not just for eating!

The Titanic, which sank in 1912, was found in 1985. Folks were surprised to find some of its fine wood furniture was still in good condition after 75 years underwater. But sometimes just a teensy-weensy drop of water on fine furniture leaves nasty spots or a white ring that looks like a life preserver. Or worse, its smooth-as-glass surface gets a small scratch. For watermarks, rub on a little mayonnaise, cover with plastic wrap, wait 30 minutes, remove the wrap, and gently rub with a nylon-scouring pad. Work with the grain, then wipe with a soft cloth. For small scratches do the same, using olive oil or any oily nut — like a pecan. Peanut butter works, too. Then restore luster with lemon oil or paste wax. Presto! -- water marks and tiny scratches disappear. And that’s the On The House tip for today.
