Light Up Your Life

Singer Debbie Boone was born on this day in 1956 in Hackensack, N.J. She's best known for her hit song, "You Light Up My Life." If saving money makes a hit at your house, consider taking a tip from Debbie and saving energy bucks by lighting up your life, too. Dirty, dusty lightbulbs put out 20 percent less light than clean ones do, often causing you to turn on a second light. Vacuum dust from lampshades. The dust keeps the light from shining through. Together these two things can save as much as $5 worth of electricity per lamp, per year. Plus, you'll get better light to see by. And that's the On The House tip for today.
