Tip of the Day

Child Safety/Injury Prevention

It's child injury prevention week and baby safety month, too. Time to look at your home for places where kids might get into trouble. Kitchens are dangerous for folks of all ages. Cook on back burners. Keep pot handles turned in, and keep anything hot away from counter edges. Avoid tablecloths and dangling electric cords. Put safety covers on stove knobs and childproof locks on cabinets and drawers where cleaners, trash and sharp objects are stored. Trash compactors are dangerous, too, if not properly closed and locked. Look for any place and any way kids can get pinched, squeezed or trapped. Electrical outlets and sharp corners deserve special attention. Create "safe" areas in your home away from risk where kids can be watched and "no zones" where they are NEVER to go. A child's safety is everyone's job, from parents and grandparents to baby sitters and siblings. And that's the On The House tip for today.
