Tip of the Day

Electrical Safety

On this day in 1890, the electric chair was introduced and William Kemmler became the first person ever deliberately electrocuted. However, many have been accidentally electrocuted due to carelessness when working with electricity in the home. If someone turns the power back on after you've turned it off, you're in for a nasty shock. Always leave a sign telling others to leave it off, even when it is off. Some appliances, like microwaves and television sets, can deliver a fatal jolt of electricity even when turned off or unplugged. Many have powerful condensers and capacitors that store electricity. So, always look for the lightning symbol that says it's not safe to open or tamper with. And that's the On The House tip for today.
