In 1827 the handy friction match, often referred to as a wooden kitchen match, was invented in merry old England and soon made it’s way to America’s colonies in 1834. Ever since, man has had the convenience and peace of mind of fire and light on demand anytime anywhere whenever it’s needed, of course unless they are wet. Then you might as well go back to basics and start rubbing two wooden matchsticks together to build a fire, unless of course your matches are waterproof. You can buy them or make them yourself. Just dip match heads in linseed oil for a few minutes. Wipe them off and let them dry and you will then have created waterproof matches that in spite of driving rain, dew and dripping wet pockets, will still be truly mission: immersible.
