Looking for a new home? Make house-hunting a little bit easier. First, make a "dream sheet" that lists what you'd ideally like to have. Then go over it and check off what you must have to be happy. Then make lots of copies. Next pick areas where you want to live and buy maps for each one. With lists and maps in hand, head on out. First rule, keep a detailed written log with dates, times and locations. Second, highlight maps to show where you've been. Color-code homes on both maps and your log sheet. If you don't like a house, mark an "X." If you like it, use the listing sheet for notes. Write down anything special and draw a floor plan on the back. Then attach your wish list, noting pros and cons. Finally, take a camera and snap lots of pictures. Also, ask questions in neighborhoods you like. Folks are usually friendly and often have good tips. Also, be pre-qualified for your loan. When you find what you want, move quickly. And that's the On The House tip for today.
