Electrical Circuit Overloads

When you have on your TV, hair dryer and a lamp at the same time do you blow fuses or pop circuit breakers? You might have a more serious problem brewing than just blackouts. Repeated overloading of electrical circuits can cause wiring deep inside walls and floors to become fatigued and to start overheating. This could lead to a fire. When fuses blow or breakers pop, again and again, your house is trying to tell you something. Find out how many watts each circuit will hold and compare it to how many you're using on each circuit at any one time. Do this by reading labels on your appliances and adding together those being used at the same time. Doing so will extend the life of your electrical system and help prevent blackouts. If you don't, you'll have plenty of light to read by and heat to cook and dry your hair by -- as your house burns down. Play it safe -- don't overload circuits. And that's the On The House tip for today.
