Landscaping Bonanza

When it comes to gardening, any tenderfoot can plant flowers but full-scale, big-time, whole-ranch landscaping with trees and hedges and sod is no chore for city slickers who don't know what they're doing. So, we'll tell you what to do. Start by doing as much of the digging, planting and fertilizing as you can. Don't be in a hurry. Spread it out over years, thereby spreading out the cost. Buy gravel and topsoil in bulk. And buy off-season -- like late summer and fall. Prowl for bargains at garden centers, discount stores, and yard sales. Skip pride and save dough. You can even propagate your own by clipping a neighbor's shrub and rooting the cutting. Try it and start saving your green and putting your silver away. And that's the On The House tip for today.
