Tip of the Day

New Doorbell Chimes

Perhaps you've been living in your house for a long time and have wearied of your doorbell's sound -- or you think the one you've got is too ordinary. If so, it's time for a change. Want animal noises when visitors arrive? Or a Navy divehorn to signal friends are at your doorstep? How about Big Ben or air-raid sirens? Today, anything is possible, and many folks don't realize just how easy it is to change your doorbell to match your personality. First, turn off the power to your chime and remove the cover. Then make a diagram of where each wire goes. Note what color goes to what terminal, and label each wire and terminal with masking tape. Loosen the screws, remove wires and remove the chime from the wall. Take your doorbell to a hardware store or home center where you'll find the sky's the limit. Purchase one that uses the same voltage. Then reverse the removal process and test it. And that's the On The House tip for today.
