Screen Door Time

A good screen door adds enjoyment and security, and can be a year-round money saver, too. New designs offer natural ventilation for summer. They feature combination frames of aluminum, vinyl or wood with foam insulation and particleboard or wood cores inside. Adding decorative grills, stainless-steel screening and heavy-duty hardware provides better security. And adding clear or decorative glass-panel inserts helps cut drafts and protects primary doors from nasty weather. Don't necessarily buy the cheapest door or the flimsy model that's on sale. Check out all options before you buy. Then pick a good combination screen/storm door that provides lots of fresh air in summer, and extra protection for nasty cold weather. Choose one that keeps little pests, like insects, and big pests like burglars and Old Man Winter outside where they belong. And that's the On The House tip for today.
