Tune-up Your Doorbell Button

If you're feeling a little lonely and wondering where all your friends went, or thinking, "how come I don't get any special deliveries any more?", cheer up. Things might not be as bad as you think. Maybe your doorbell isn't doing what it's supposed to. This condition could severely hamper your social life. To be sure, give it a test push. If it doesn't ring, here's what to do: a doorbell system has very few moving parts, which means very little can go wrong. Still, just a little corrosion on the contacts is all it takes to break the electrical connection. To remedy this condition, turn off the power and remove the pushbutton cover. Loosen the screws that hold the wires, remove and clean the wires with sandpaper or emery cloth, or even a knife blade, until they shine. Then reattach them. You might find you're more sought after than you thought. And that's the On The House tip for today.
