Tip of the Day

Buying Your Dream Home

The Clampett family didn't do a good job of house hunting in Beverly Hills. Their home was too big, not their style and didn't suit their needs or any of the farm animals either. So what should you do to avoid mistakes when out looking for new digs? A home is probably the largest single investment you'll make, and it's why the home-buying process should be undertaken with great care. First, find a good real estate agent to help you shop and a good attorney to manage the sale. When you find a house, don't just start bidding. First find out all you can about taxes, costs and whether it can be expanded later. Then get a professional home inspection. A written report first can save thousands of dollars down the road. Finally be patient. Closing takes about 30 days after an agreed-upon price. Finally, check out schools, the neighborhood and what kind of folks live next door. If you don't, you just might find Jed, Ellie May, Granny and Jethro cooking, farming and shooting up the place. And that's the On The House tip for today.
