Clogged showerheads are annoying and unsightly. A lot of folks get used to it and put up with it day after day, week after week -- years of reduced efficiency, not to mention an uncomfortable shower. It doesn't have to be that way because showerhead maintenance is a snap. If yours runs slowly, try this quick-and-easy cleaning tip. Remove the head by turning the collar nut and swivel-ball retainer counterclockwise. Clean out inlet and outlet holes with a paperclip. If there are mineral deposits, soak it in white vinegar overnight. Next day, remove any loose material and rinse. If the rubber o-ring is worn, go to a hardware store for an exact match. Replace the o-ring and reassemble the showerhead. Use pipe-joint sealant on all threads inside and out. If it still leaks at the swivel, tighten the collar nut. If it leaks at the arm, tighten the swivel-ball nut. If it doesn't leak, grab your soap, your rubber ducky and lather up. And that's the On The House tip for today.
