Mildew Cleaning Tips

Anywhere you have moisture without sunlight and ventilation -- or both -- you, sooner or later, will have mildew. To clean mildew from any washable or painted surface, start with 3 quarts of warm water. Then add 1 quart of liquid chlorine bleach and 1-third cup of powdered laundry detergent. Remember to wear safety goggles to protect your eyes and rubber gloves to protect your skin. Have plenty of fresh air and ventilation available. Use a stiff brush and a sponge, and scrub until all mildew and fungus disappears. For a more permanent solution on painted surfaces, and to keep mildew from coming back to bug you, consider one of the new mildew-proof paints now on the market. Remember that fresh air and sunshine are your friends. And that's the On The House tip for today.
