Tip of the Day

Think-ahead Trim Painting

Here's a great little tip for painting trim when you're installing new windows, a new door, or even baseboard in a new or existing room. When you replace a door or put up new one and window trim and/or baseboards, you can save a lot of grief when it comes time to paint. Just cut a bunch of 6-inch-wide strips of waxed paper, and tape them around untrimmed windows and doors and/or along the floor so they extend 3 or 4 inches beyond the trim when it's installed. Then go ahead and paint with speed and abandon. Sloppy edges won't matter. When you're done, just take a sharp razor knife and trim off the exposed waxed paper. And that's the On The House tip for today.
