The nice thing about vinyl tile is it's easy to install and easy to replace when it gets damaged. The hardest part is finding tiles to match. Maybe you put some aside when the floor was installed. If not, look under major appliances where you might ?harvest? some. Also look under cabinets. If this produces no results, hit the streets in search of a match. Once you've got replacement tiles in hand, the rest is simple. First use a hair dryer to heat damaged tiles, carefully removing them with a broad putty knife. Be careful not to damage surroundings tiles. Use a paint scraper to take off old adhesive and spread the new with a small-notched trowel. Then lower the tile into place, pressing down and wiping off any excess adhesive that works up through the seams. Finally put down some waxed paper and weight the tile down with books, bricks, or whatever -- for at least 24 hours. The next day when you remove the weight it should separate easily, because the waxed paper keeps it from sticking. And that's the On The House tip for today.
