Tip of the Day

Let There Be Light -- Automatically

Today there are lots of automatic light switches that deliver light when and where its needed. They'll pay for themselves in time, with savings on electricity. Motion sensors, in switches and light sockets, shed light when arms are full, hands are dirty and you need security, inside or out. Door-jamb switches turn lights on when you open a closet or pantry. Just remember to shut them off when you leave. If you've got kids, you've surely reminded them electricity costs money. A combination motion sensor and timer switch solves the kid problem by turning lights off 10 to 30 seconds after there's no more movement. Kid's love it. There are high-end models, too, with more bells and whistles -- including programmed on-and-off times and remote-controlled operation by telephone. Hardware stores and home centers have many styles to choose from. Ask questions, tell them your needs, and you're sure to find one that's right for your home and family. Automatic light switches will let there be light or darkness -- as you need it. And that's the On The House tip for today.
