Painting six-panel doors with a brush is easier if you take them off their hinges and lay them flat on a couple of sawhorses. But waiting for one side to dry before you can flip the door over to paint the other is a big time-waster. By using just three screws it's a chore no more -- and no time is wasted. Lay the door down and put two long screws in the bottom edge and one more in the top. That's all you need. Lay the door on the sawhorses, resting on the screws (not on the door face). When you finish painting the first side, lift the bottom, holding the two screws, yell "about face" and flip it over, pivoting the door on the single top screw. You'll be painting side two while number one dries. And without messing anything up. Three screws, paint, "about face" and more paint. Welcome to handyman bootcamp. Dismissed. And that's the On The House tip for today.
