Today's a holiday for lots of people, and many will be working both indoors and out... making repairs and performing home improvements. If an extension ladder plays a role in your day, set it up right so it's stable and safe! Here's how. Start with a level base, then set the ladder at the proper angle. With your toes against the ladder's feet, stand up straight and extend your arms outward. Your palms should rest on the ladder's rung. If it's too close, it could tip over backward too far and it could bend or the bottom could slide out. Then secure the feet on a hard surface. Be sure it's clean; dirt or sand could cause it to slip. On soft ground, flip the 'shoes' up so the pointed spurs dig in and prevent slipping. Jump on the bottom rung to firmly set the ladder, then tie the top down for added safety and to keep it from sliding sideways. Finally, carry tools and supplies in a belt or makeshift holder so you can use both hands for climbing!
